South Dakota Wheat Growers (SDWG) is a grain and agronomy cooperative in the heart of the James River Valley of South and North Dakota. Owned by the customers it serves, Wheat Growers exists to provide value for customer owners from Interstate 90 to Interstate 94 and the Missouri River to Interstate 29.
Wheat Growers Mission:
To provide, with integrity, our customers with reliable markets, services and quality products through a safety-oriented, profitable, and innovative organization.
South Dakota Wheat Growers (SDWG) began as a state wheat pool in 1923. We have since grown into one of the most successful cooperatives in the United States. We’ve made sure this growth has not come at the expense of service or by discarding the core values established by our ‘founding farmers.’
Our Core Values
- Integrity in Business Dealings
- Provide Superior Service to Our Customers
- Focus on Present and Future Customer Needs
- Remain Financially Strong
- Maintain Progressive Leadership for Our Company
- Commitment to a Positive Safety Culture
Our Board and Delegates have seen to that, providing producer-driven direction, responsive to new ideas and changes, yet with a passion for representing the needs of fellow member-owners. That passion is the driving force behind our evolution into this region’s premier grain and agronomy cooperative. It provides feed through a joint venture, Dakotaland Feeds, LLC.
Today, more than 16,000 equity holders and 3,600 active producer members are using SDWG products and services, a choice enhanced by strong patronage returns and timely equity retirement payments. Read more details in our most recent annual report. What you’ll find are the numbers and story of a financially responsive and responsible cooperative.
Twelve rail loading points link our locations together, providing a valuable marketing edge for growers’ grain. Three of these are shuttle-loading facilities in Wolsey, Mellette, and Aberdeen. A shuttle-loading joint venture in Oakes, ND, provides further grain marketing opportunities.
While SDWG covers a lot of ground, so do its growers. They appreciate knowing that wherever they farm in this area, SDWG agronomy services are probably nearby.
Besides the largest custom application fleet in the region, the SDWG team stands ready to help you with seed solutions and a host of services, including precision agriculture—doing all we can to help you achieve your yield goals as efficiently and as effectively as possible.
That teamwork is not just limited to fieldwork. Access to ag-specific financing is vital, and our staff of personable finance specialists are dedicated to confidentially helping in this aspect of your operation.
With this one-stop, specialized-shop focus on agronomy…we better be ready for the harvest. And we are. Marketing over 90 million bushels annually, our centrally located grain merchandisers coordinate transportation, linking producers with the best markets available.
Our growers know that time spent at the desk these days is as crucial as time behind the wheel of the tractor. The programs provided by our grain department offer the tools to minimize risk as well as the resources to more effectively manage grain quality.
